Pride Mobility Products Corp., the world’s leading designer
and manufacturer of personal mobility equipment including
power chairs, travel mobility products, scooters, and lift
chairs was recently visited by Senator Rick Santorum (R-PA)
to discuss the National Coverage Determination (NCD) standards,
as determined by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services
(CMS), for mobility assistance equipment.
Dan Meuser, President of Pride USA stated, “Although
we had gained the support of Senator Santorum on the various
challenges that Americans with disabilities continue to face,
both in funding and medical coverage policy, today’s
meeting allowed us to, in detail, coverdocumentation clarity,
coverage policy, as well as the proposed gap filling methodology.
Senator Santorum is keenly interested in helping create a
reasonable plan for all stakeholders.”
In order to support the Senator’s efforts with regards
to these issues, Scott Meuser, Chairman and CEO of Pride,
Dan Meuser, and Kevin Quaglia, Pride’s General Manager
of Industry Relations, met with the Senator to discuss the
need for CMS to expedite the ongoing change in national coverage
policy that eliminates the requirement that a patient be “bed
or chair confined” in order to qualify for a power mobility
product as well as the urgency for clarity in the documentation
requirements under this policy. Pride representatives also
outlined for the Senator concerns with the current methodology
used by CMS to develop fees schedules called “Gap Filling”
and provided an update on the current study underway by the
American Association for Home Care called “Alternatives
to Revise Medicare Gap Filling Methodology.”
